Development of social studies teachers’ self-confidence for teaching scale

Abstract

In this research, it was aimed to develop "Self-confidence towards Teaching" Scale that can be used in determining the self-confidence of social studies teachers. First of all, the related literature was examined and scale items were prepared. The scale was organized as 5-point Likert type. A total of 12 items were written at first, but the number was reduced to 9 items in line with the opinions of the experts. After examining the face validity of the scale, the language and understandability of each item was examined using face-to-face interviews with five teachers. The scale was given to 269 teachers to determine the reliability and the construct validity of the scale. The maximum likelihood method and the exploratory factor analysis were used to determine the construct validity of the scale. As a result of the analysis, it was determined that the scale has only one factor structure and that all items works. For the inner consistency of the scale, reliability levels (Cronbach’s Alpha) were high and all items were discriminatory.

Bu araştırmada sosyal bilgiler öğretmenlerinin öğretime yönelik özgüvenlerinin belirlenmesinde kullanılabilecek “Öğretime Yönelik Özgüven” ölçeği geliştirilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Öncelikle ilgili literatür incelenerek ölçek maddeleri hazırlanmıştır. Ölçek, 5’li Likert olarak düzenlenmiştir. Toplam 12 madde hazırlanan ölçek uzmanların görüşleri doğrultusunda 9 madde olarak düzenlenmiştir. Görünüş geçerliğinin incelenmesinden sonra beş öğretmene yüz yüze uygulayarak her bir maddenin dil ve anlaşılırlığı incelenmiştir. Güvenirlik ve yapı geçerliğinin belirlenmesi için 269 öğretmene uygulama yapılmıştır. Ölçeğin yapı geçerliğini belirlemek için en çok olabilirlik metodu (maximumlikelihood) ile açımlayıcı faktör analizi yapılmıştır. Analiz sonucunda ölçeğin tek faktör yapısına sahip olduğu ve tüm maddelerin işler olduğu belirlenmiştir. Ölçeğin iç tutarlı bağlamında Cronbach Alpha güvenirlik düzeylerinin yüksek ve tüm maddelerin ayırt edici olduğu gözlenmiştir
