This study explores the image of the homeland in modern Syrian diaspora literature, approaching it as one of the central themes that reflects the profound interplay between human experience and literary consciousness within the context of the political and social transformations that Syrian society has undergone in recent years. It argues that Syrian diaspora literature is not merely an extension of national literature beyond geographical borders; rather, it represents a distinct creative sphere in which writers reconstruct the notion of the homeland as a symbolic entity—one where individual longing intertwines with collective memory, and where emotional and political dimensions converge within a unified artistic structure. The study builds its theoretical framework on the concept of the literary image, treating it not as a simple figure of speech, but as an integrated aesthetic construct shaped through linguistic and symbolic means that transcend traditional modes of representation. Within this framework, diaspora literature is examined as a product of displacement, marked by the tension between reality and memory, and between the lost homeland and the imagined one. In addition, the study draws upon the historical, geographical, and political background of Syria to demonstrate how this complex context contributes to shaping the image of the homeland in the literary imagination of writers. The analytical section investigates the image of the homeland across three major literary genres: the novel, poetry, and the short story. In novels, the homeland emerges as a multilayered narrative space situated between past and present, reflecting collective memory, while place itself becomes a central element of the narrative structure. In poetry, the image of the homeland is expressed through dense symbolism and emotional intensity, where longing transforms into a powerful aesthetic force, and natural elements serve as symbolic substitutes for the homeland. In short stories, the homeland is represented through the minute details of everyday life and through condensed narrative techniques, offering a striking and profound depiction of individual experience in exile. The findings of the study reveal that the image of the homeland in modern Syrian diaspora literature is neither fixed nor singular; rather, it is a dynamic and multilayered construct that oscillates between longing and loss, idealization and critique, past and present. Furthermore, the differences among literary genres contribute to diversifying the representations of the homeland, thereby creating a rich network of images that reflect the complexity of the diasporic experience. In conclusion, modern Syrian diaspora literature does not merely depict the homeland; it reimagines and reconstructs it as a symbolic space that transcends geographical boundaries, existing within memory and emotion. In this sense, the homeland is redefined as a multifaceted concept situated at the intersection of identity, belonging, and the human relationship with place.
