Investigation of Teachers' Views About Experimenting in Science Course During Distance Education

Abstract

After the Covid-19 epidemic, which affected the whole world, distance education was carried out over the internet and TV instead of face-to-face training in classrooms. Experimentation, which is an integral part of science lessons, is a point that needs to be researched how it is carried out in the distance education process. With this study, it was aimed to investigate teachers’ opinions about experimenting in science lessons in the distance education process. The study conducted with 34 science teachers. Four open-ended questions developed by researchers were asked to the teachers in order to investigate their opinions about experimenting in the distance education process. Content analysis of the obtained data was carried out. In the results obtained, teachers stated that experimenting in the distance education process was difficult due to material and technical deficiencies, students’ motivation was low and they were insuficient to activate students. However, they also stated that conducting some experiments was safer and the visuality attracted the attention of the students. As long as distance education continues, studies in which model proposals for conducting experiments, which are an integral part of science lessons should be developed.Tüm dünyayı etkileyen Covid-19 salgını sonrası sınıflarda yüz yüze eğitim yerine internet ve TV üzerinden uzaktan eğitim gerçekleştirilmiştir. Fen derslerinin ayrılmaz bir parçası olan deney yapma uzaktan eğitim sürecinde nasıl gerçekleştirildiği araştırılması gereken bir nokta olarak karşımıza çıkmaktadır. Bu çalışma ile uzaktan eğitim sürecinde fen bilimleri dersinde deney yapmaya yönelik öğretmen görüşlerinin araştırılması amaçlanmıştır. Çalışma 34 fen bilimleri öğretmeni ile yürütülmüştür. Öğretmenlere uzaktan eğitim sürecinde deney yapma ile ilgili görüşlerinin araştırılması için araştırmacılara tarafından geliştirilen dört açık uçlu soru yöneltilmiştir. Elde edilen verilerin içerik analizi gerçekleştirilmiştir. Elde edilen sonuçlarda uzaktan eğitim sürecinde öğretmenler; deney yapmanın malzeme ve teknik eksikler nedeni ile zor olduğunu, öğrencilerin motivasyonun düşük olduğunu ve öğrencileri aktif kılmada yetersiz olduğunu belirtmişlerdir. Bununla birlikte bazı deneylerin yapılmasının daha güvenliği olduğu ve görselliğin öğrencilerin ilgisini çektiğini de belirtmişlerdir. Uzaktan eğitimin devam ettiği sürece fen derslerinin ayrılmaz bir parçası olan deneylerin yapılmasına ilişkin model önerilerinin geliştirildiği çalışmalar yürütülmelidir.
