Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the effect of metacognitive and learning and study strategies on the achievement levels of physiotherapy and rehabilitation students. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted by administering an online survey to fourth-year physiotherapy and rehabilitation students. The academic achievement level of the students was assessed using the graduation grade point average (GPA). To investigate the effect of metacognition and learning and study strategies on achievement levels, the Metacognitive Awareness Inventory (MAI) and the Learning and Study Strategies Inventory (LASSI) were administered. Results: The study was carried out with 180 participants with a mean age of 22.51±0.86 years. According to multiple linear regression analysis, metacognition and learning and study strategies jointly affected achievement level (p<0.001). The ratio of the effect of metacognitive awareness level and learning and study strategies on GPA was 11.5%. A one-point increment in LASSI increased to 0.003 units in GPA (p<0.001). MAI total score had no effect on GPA (p=0.903). Conclusion: While metacognition alone has no effect, it has an effect on the academic achievement of physiotherapy students in conjunction with learning and study strategies. Therefore, universities may improve academic achievement by offering programs for students to develop metacognitive awareness and study strategies.
