Özet

This study investigated the distribution of greenhouse gas emissions in Turkey during the period of 1990-2012 according to year and sectors. A significant countrywide increase in greenhouse gas emissions was identified in that period (133%). The most important factors that contribute to this growth are economic growth, high energy density and population growth. With a share of 70%, energy sector is the first in the sectoral distribution of greenhouse gas emissions. To a large extent, increases in greenhouse gas emissions are based on energy production and consumption. Emissions caused by industrial processes follow energy based emissions. However, amount of emission caused in Turkey while generating one unit of gross domestic product is below Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and world averages.
