Morphometric investigation of bulbus oculi in Tabby cat

Abstract

Çalışmanın amacı Tekir kedilerinde bulbus oculi’nin morfometrik değerlerinin ortaya konmasıdır. Yapılan araştırmada travma, hastalık veya doğal yolla ölen 14 dişi ve 11 erkek toplam 25 adet yetişkin kediye ait 48 adet göz küresi kullanıldı. Diseksiyon yapılarak orbitadan ayrılan gözlerin hassas tartıyla ağırlık ölçümleri yapıldı. Bulbus oculi, cornea, lens ve pupilla üzerinde belirlenen 10 noktadan ölçümler gerçekleştirildi. Bulbus oculinin ağırlık ölçümlerinde erkek kedilerde sağ göz küresinin soldan daha ağır olduğu, dişilerde ise yine sağ göz küresinin daha ağır ancak erkeklere göre düşük ağırlıkta olduğu belirlendi. Erkek ve dişi kedilerde sağ göz küresi hacmi daha yüksek bulunurken bu değerin erkek kedilere oranla dişi kedilerde daha düşük olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Sonuç olarak bulbus oculi, lens, cornea ve pupilla’ya ait verilerin erkek Tekir kedilerde dişilere göre daha büyük değerlere sahip olduğu görüldü. Elde edilen verilerin göz ile ilgili hastalıklarda tanı ve tedavi metotlarında kullanılmasının yanı sıra bu konuda yapılacak anatomik ve klinik çalışmalara katkı sağlayacağı düşünülmektedir.

The aim of the study is to determine the morphometric values of the bulbus oculi in Tabby cats. In this research, 48 eyeballs from a total of 25 adult cats, including 14 females and 11 males, that died naturally or due to trauma or disease were used. The eyeballs were dissected and separated from the orbit, and their weights were measured using a precision scale. Measurements were taken from 10 specific points on the bulbus oculi, cornea, lens, and pupil. In the weight measurements of the bulbus oculi, it was determined that the right eyeball was heavier than the left in male cats, whereas in females, the right eyeball was also heavier but with a lower weight compared to males. In both male and female cats, the volume of the right eyeball was found to be greater; however, this value was determined to be lower in females compared to males. As a result, the values of the bulbus oculi, lens, cornea, and pupil were found to be higher in male Tabby cats than in females. The obtained data are expected to contribute to anatomical and clinical studies in this field, as well as to the diagnosis and treatment methods of ocular diseases.
