| dc.description.abstract | This paper looks into the relationship between metathesis #8211; the phenomenon of sound change #8211; and the syllabic system of Turkish. The examples we made use of were selected from a corpus of Turkish dialects and from Hasan Eren #8217;s Etymological Dictionary of the Turkish Language. In Turkish metathesis does not happen mechanically and without reason. On the contrary, it is closely related to the syllabic system of Turkish, which has been arranged in line with the Sonority Sequencing Principle (SSP). | en_US |
