Theories of first interpretation in al-Tabari’s thought system: Analyzes on method of teleological interpretation

Abstract

In the classical Islamic literature, the purposes of the Holy Qur’an/Maqasid al-Qur’an as a technical term is assessed under the top headlines like monotheism/tawhid, prophethood, afterlife/ahirah and justice. In parallel with the outstanding values in the modern world, the concept of “justice” that one of the above mentioned concept is discussed in the context of the relationship between law and ethic. The concept of justice, which emphasizes fundamental rights and freedoms such as human rights and equality as well as the freedoms of religion and conscience, is analyzed that under the heading of general purpose and objectives of Islamic law which is including the goals regarding the human acts and social life in the literature. There is a linear correlation between purposively qualities transportation of sacred texts and the interpretation mechanisms that can interpret them. The aim of this article is to analyze al-Tabari’s thought system in terms of the method of the teleological interpretation and is to evaluate his approaching to the mechanisms of tafseer and taweel that can be described as the theories of first interpretation.

Klasik İslâm literatüründe teknik bir terim olarak Kur’ân’ın maksatları tevhid, nübüvvet, âhiret ve adalet gibi üst başlıklar altında değerlendirilmiştir. Modern dünyada öne çıkan değerler paralelinde ise adı geçen bu kavramlardan biri olan “adalet” kavramı, hukuk ve ahlâk ilişkisi bağlamında ele alınmaktadır. İnsan hakları ve eşitlik, din ve vicdan hürriyeti gibi temel hak ve hürriyetleri de ifade eden bu kavram, literatürde daha çok insan fiilleri ve toplum hayatına ilişkin hedefleri kapsayacak biçimde İslâm hukukunun genel maksat ve gâyeleri başlığı altında analiz edilmektedir. Kutsal metinlerin amaçsal nitelik taşıması ile onları yorumlayabilecek yorum mekanizmaları arasında doğrusal bir ilişki vardır. Bu makalenin amacı da, gâî/teleolojik yorum metodu açısından Taberi’nin düşünce sistemini ve ilk yorum teorileri olarak nitelendirebilecek tefsir ve te’vil mekanizmalarına yaklaşımını analiz etmektir.
