dc.description.abstractEV speed controller has been a worldwide research field due to its high importance in the traction chain of the electric vehicle. Much advanced controller has been carried out, the most common and chosen is the sliding mode controller, which this known for its high performance and robustness, and ease of implementation. However, chattering phenomena are its limitations. For that, a speed controller design based on fractional order super twisting sliding mode controller is proposed in this paper for controlling the EV speed using dual star PMSM as an electric drive powered by li-ion battery cylindric NMC21700 cells. This controller is used for increasing the performance of the traction chain of the EV. The simulation results obtained confirm the improvement using fractional integral order with STSMC in the EV in terms of robustness and dynamic performance while the battery storage system provides the energy requirements during all the phases successfully. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.
