A comparative evaluation of the belief of the Messiah in Judaism and of the belieg in the Mahdi in Ahl al-Sunnah in the context of savior

Abstract

In general, the savior belief in the life of societies has preserved its existence in every period and has even survived to the present day. In our study; it will be emphasized how one of the ancient religions, Judaism, and on the other hand, Ahl al-Sunnah that constitutes an important branch of Islam, approached the issue of savior, what meanings they attributed to it, and what names they used to express the "savior". In addition, the characteristics of the savior of these two beliefs, the people who declared themselves as saviors in the historical process, the other characters whose names were mentioned with the savior and impotant religious reference sources about the savior will be examined. While making this study, our main aim is to try to reveal the similarities and differences between the savior belief in Judaism, which is known as the most ancient of the monotheistic religions, and the savior belief in the Ahl al-Sunnah, in general terms. It has been seen that the expectations of people who were belonging to Judaism and Ahl al-Sunnah for future also affected the expectations about the savior belief. Therefore, it will be tried to explain conceretely how people describe Mahdi and Messiah in Judaism and Ahl al-Sunnah. In addition, it will be tried to present the matters which make these two beliefs similar to each other or diffirentiate from each other.

Genel olarak bakıldığında toplumların hayatında kurtarıcı inancı her dönem varlığını muhafaza ederek önemini korumuş ve günümüze kadar gelmiştir. Çalışmamızda kadim dinlerden biri olan Yahudilik ve diğer taraftan İslam’ın önemli bir kolunu oluşturan Ehl-i Sünnet’in kurtarıcı meselesine nasıl yaklaştıkları, ona hangi anlamlar yükledikleri ve “kurtarıcıyı” hangi isimler ile ifade ettikleri üzerinde durulacaktır. Ayrıca bu iki inanca ait kurtarıcının özellikleri, tarihi süreç içerisinde kendini kurtarıcı olarak ilan eden şahıslar, kurtarıcıyla birlikte isimleri anılan diğer karakterler ve kurtarıcıyla ilgili önemli dini referans kaynakların incelenecektir. Bu inceleme yapılırken temel amacımız, semavi dinlerinde geçmişi en eskilerden bir tanesi olan Yahudilikteki kurtarıcı inancı ile Ehl-i Sünnet’teki kurtarıcı inancı arasında olan benzer ve farklı yönleri genel hatlarıyla ortaya koymaya çalışmaktır. Yahudiliğe ve Ehl-i Sünnet’e mensup insanların geleceğe dair beklentilerinin kurtarıcı inancıyla ilgili beklentileri de etkilediği görülmüştür. Bundan dolayı Yahudilikte ve Ehl-i Sünnet’te insanların Mehdi ve Mesih’i nasıl tanımladıkları somut bir şekilde ifade edilmeye çalışılacak, ayrıca bu iki inancı birbirine yaklaştıran veya birbirinden uzaklaştıran hususlar ortaya konulmaya çalışılacaktır.
