Education of Turkmen bahsis and their performance environment in epic of Necep Oglan

Abstract

The epic of Necep Oglan not only tells about an experience of being Turkmen bahsi but comprises also some information on the performance environment of bahsis. The epic covers the educational process of bahsis, the examination of being a bahsi, the symbolic gift taken, and detailed records on places where the bahsis perform their art. All just mentioned show that there exist tight relationships between tradition of being bahsi and epics. In the result of evaluations, it is seen that Epic of Necep Oglan, being on different position owing to its topic, can contribute to the works done on Turkmen bahsis and the information belonging to context of epic text can be used in epic researches.
