Bahşişin ekonomik boyutları üzerine teorik-analitik yaklaşım altında bir inceleme

Abstract

Bu çalışmada, özellikle hizmet sektöründe yaygın bir uygulama olan bahşişin, istihdam ve ücret üzerindeki etkisi incelenmiştir. Bu yapılırken literatürdeki bilgi ve verilerin yanı sıra, iktisatta genel kabul görmüş olan teorik-grafiksel analiz araçlarıyla, bu analiz araçlarına uygun olarak üretilen bazı teorik verilerden yararlanılmıştır. Bahşiş olgusu ve etkileri hakkındaki bilinen literatür bilgilerinin söz konusu grafiksel analiz araçlarıyla “sentez” edilerek bunlardan bazı sonuçlar üretilmeye çalışılması, bu çalışmanın orijinal yönünü oluşturmaktadır. Bulgular göstermektedir ki, gerek işletme düzeyinde, gerekse sektör düzeyinde, bahşişin varlığı hem ücreti hem de istihdamı azaltmaktadır. Bahşişin varlığı işverenleri ücreti azaltmaya sevk etmekte ve buna olanak sağlamaktadır. Fakat ücret azalmasında tek faktör bu değildir. Bahşişin varlığı nedeniyle sektör düzeyinde talep edilen emek miktarının azalması da önemli diğer bir faktördür. Çalışma, bahşişin etkisi hakkındaki başka çalışmalarda anket ya da gözlem yoluyla ulaşılan bazı sonuçların, iktisat bilimindeki grafiksel analiz araçları uygulandığında da elde edilebildiğini göstermektedir. Üstelik bahşişin etkisinin iktisadi mekanizmalarını da ortaya koyması bakımından, söz konusu diğer çalışmaları teyit edici bir yönünün bulunduğu da söylenebilir.

In this study, the impact of tips, that is a common practise particularly in the service sector, on employment and wages was examined. While doing so, besides the knowledge and data in the literature, theoretical and graphical analysis tools that is generally accepted in economics and some hypothetical data produced by authors in accordance with the analysis tools mentioned were utilized. It is the original direction of this work that attempts to “synthesize” the known literatüre information about the tip phenomenon and its effects in paticular with graphical analysis tools to produce some conclusions from them. Findings indicate that the existence of tipping reduces wages and employment at both firm level and sectoral level. Existence of tipping encourages the employers to decrease the wages and makes possible it. However, this is not only factor for reduction of wages. The reduction of the amount of labor demanded at sectoral level, that is due to existence of tipping, is also another important factor. The study illustrates that certain outcomes, obtained by survey or observation methods in other studies on the impact of tip, can also bu obtained when graphical analysis tools in the economics are applied. Moreover, it can be said that, due to the study reveals economical mechanism of effects of tip, the study has an aspect supporting the outcomes of the other studies mentioned.
