Libraries of andalusian and contributions to scientific knowledge production

Abstract

Since the foundation of the Islamic Civilization, science and culture have been recognized as preconditions in almost every field, but have begun to gain awareness in every kind of scientific development social space in the developed civilizations of the period. Especially the translation activities of the eastern and western classics initiated during the Umayyad period brought the Renaissance to the Islamic society. This scholarly and cultural activities gained momentum with the Abbasid Arab societies have come to a different stage with his foot on the Iberian Peninsula and in this period has contributed to rid Europe from the darkness of the Middle Ages through the resulting madrasas and libraries. The Andalusian civilization brought together a variety of cultural and scientific accumulations, thus enabling the emergence of a unique style of intellectual structure. In addition, books and libraries, which are the biggest supporters of scientists, have enriched and have become one of the indispensables of the society. In this study, it is aimed to reveal the role of Andalusian libraries in the production of scientific knowledge. It also emphasizes the importance of the libraries that form the support column in the production of scientific information. At this point, Andalusian libraries, translation activities and scientific developments were examined on the basis of domestic and foreign literatüre. At the end of the study, it was seen that the translation activities carried out within the Andalusian civilization and the established libraries made important contributions in the scientific and cultural fieldsİslam Uygarlığı’nın temellerinin atıldığı andan itibaren bilim ve kültür hemen her alanın ön koşulu olarak görülmekle birlikte, dönemin gelişmiş uygarlıklarında yer alan her türlü bilimsel gelişim toplumsal zeminde farkındalık kazanmaya başlamıştır. Özelikle Emeviler devrinde başlatılan doğu ve batı klasiklerinin tercüme faaliyeti İslam toplumuna dönemin Rönesansını yaşatmıştır. Abbasilerle ivme kazanan bu bilimsel ve kültürel çalışmalar Arap toplumunun İber Yarımadası’na ayak basmasıyla birlikte farklı bir aşamaya gelmiş ve bu dönemde ortaya çıkan medreseler ve kütüphaneler aracılığıyla Avrupa’nın Ortaçağ’ın karanlığından kurtulmasına katkı sağlamıştır. Endülüs uygarlığı, çeşitli kültürel ve bilimsel birikimleri bir araya getirerek, benzersiz bir entelektüel yapının ortaya çıkmasını sağlamıştır. Ayrıca bilim adamlarının en büyük destekçisi olan kitap ve kütüphanelerin zenginleşerek, toplumun vazgeçilmezleri arasına girmesine olanak sağlamıştır. Bu çalışmada, Endülüs kütüphanelerinin bilimsel bilginin üretilmesindeki rolünün açığa çıkartılması amaçlanmaktadır. Ayrıca bilimsel bilginin üretiminde kütüphanelerin önemi vurgulanmaktadır. Bu noktada Endülüs kütüphaneleri, çeviri faaliyetleri ve bilimsel gelişmeler yerli ve yabancı literatür temelinde incelenmiştir. Çalışma sonucunda Endülüs uygarlığı bünyesinde yürütülen çeviri faaliyetlerinin ve kurulan kütüphanelerin bilimsel ve kültürel alanlarda önemli katkıları olduğu görülmüştür.
