COVID-19 and Inequalities

Abstract

As in disasters, social inequality is revealed as a result of the destruction that occurs in epidemics. The Covid-19 epidemic has also spread all over the world and has taken the world under its influence. Although this effect is almost equal in every country, it has shaped its effect within countries according to class differences and has reinforced the general rule of "everything is class" that has been spoken for centuries. The effect of the epidemic on the individual is shaped according to the age, gender, race, country of residence, job, and access to health services. Social determinants of health affect a person's health in the epidemic. As a result of the pandemic, the economic and social class distinction is getting deeper. In vulnerable groups, the incidence of the disease, the risk of death increase, and the quality of life worsens. In this review, the relationship between Covid-19 and the resulting pandemic and inequalities has been revealed.

Afetlerde olduğu gibi salgınlarda da meydana gelen yıkım sonucunda toplumsal eşitsizlik gözler önüne serilmektedir. Covid-19 salgını da tüm dünyaya yayılmış ve dünyayı etkisi altına almıştır. Bu etki her ülkede neredeyse eşit şekilde olmasına karşın ülkeler içindeki etkisini sınıfsal farklılıklara göre şekillendirmiş ve yüzyıllardır dillendirilen “her şey sınıfsaldır” genel kuralını pekiştirmiştir. Salgının bireye olan etkisi kişinin yaşına, cinsiyetine, ırkına, yaşadığı ülkeye, yaptığı işe, sağlık hizmetine ulaşılabilirliğine göre biçimlenmektedir. Sağlığın sosyal belirleyicileri kişinin salgındaki sağlığına etki etmektedir. Pandemi sonucunda ekonomik ve sosyal sınıf ayrımı daha da derinleşmektedir. Etkiye açık grupların hastalığa yakalanma sıklığı ve ölüm riski artmakta, yaşam kalitesi düşmektedir. Bu derlemede, Covid-19 ve oluşan pandeminin eşitsizlikler ile ilişkisi ortaya konulmuştur.
