Introduction: Feeding and eating difficulties are common in children with Autism Spectrum Dis order (ASD) and these difficulties can particularly impact the quality of life of mothers. Purpose: This study aimed to determine the relationship between the eating behaviors and problems of children diagnosed with ASD and the quality of life of their mothers (n = 92). Design and methods: Data for this descriptive cross-sectional study were collected between February 2023 and May 2023. Participants completed the Parent Questionnaire, Feeding Prob lems Screening Tool, Short Autism Mealtime Behavior Inventory, and Autism-Specific Quality of Life Parent Version. Results: A significant negative relationship was found between feeding difficulties and mothers’ perceived quality of life. Mothers who reported lower quality of life perceived mealtime behaviors of their children with ASD as more problematic (p < 0.01). Conclusions: This study highlights that as the eating behaviors and problems of children with ASD increase, the quality of life perceived by their mothers decreases. Additionally, mothers who report lower quality of life also tend to perceive more severe mealtime behavior problems in their children. These results underline the need for targeted support strategies beyond general awareness for families and school professionals.
