| dc.description.abstract | Bu çalışma, XX. yüzyıl başlarında ortaya çıkan ıslahatçı Selefiyye hareketini tarihsel, fikrî ve toplumsal boyutlarıyla incelemektedir. Cemâleddîn el-Efgânî ve Muhammed Abduh’un başlattığı reform çizgisinin Reşîd Rızâ ile kazandığı şekillenme süreci ele alınarak hareketin temel hedefleri analiz edilmektedir. Çalışmada, Selefiyye’nin Kur’an ve Sünnet’e dönüş, bid‘at eleştirisi ve erken dönem İslam toplumunun ahlâkî bütünlüğünü yeniden tesis etme düşüncesi etrafında geliştiği gösterilmektedir. | |
| dc.description.abstract | This study examines the reformist Salafiyya movement of the early twentieth century from historical, intellectual, and social perspectives. Focusing on the reformist legacy initiated by Jamāl al-Dīn al-Afghānī and Muḥammad ʿAbduh and further developed by Rashīd Riḍā, it analyzes the movement’s principal aims and ideas. The study argues that Salafiyya was shaped by the call to return to the Qur’an and Sunnah, the critique of religious innovations (bidʿa), and the aspiration to restore the moral integrity of the early Muslim community. This is the case even in Cairo, which, thanks to its geographical location, cosmopolitanism, large number of intellectuals and British liberalism, continues to be the intellectual, political and linguistic capital of the Arab Islamic world. Rather than proposing a doctrinal innovation, the movement is evaluated as a project of moral reform, educational renewal, and social transformation. In this context, its views on education, language, and politics are explored, highlighting a holistic educational model that combines religious and modern sciences and emphasizing the unifying role of the Arabic language. Politically, the movement sought a balance between absolutist rule and Western secular models through the principles of shūrā, public interest (maṣlaḥa), and Sharʿī legitimacy. The study also evaluates its responses to nationalism, colonialism, and relations with the West. It concludes that reformist Salafiyya represented a cautious, morally grounded, and comprehensive project of renewal developed from within Islamic intellectual traditions in response to the challenges of modernity. | |
