dc.description.abstractThe purpose of the current study is to investigate the pre-service classroom teachers’ attitudestowards the course of “Physical Education and Sports Culture” in relation to variables of gender,the father’s profession, age, the reason for selecting the department of classroom teachereducation and the university attended. The universe of the study consists of 2 nd year studentsattending the Classroom Teacher Education Departments of Elementary Education Programs atthe Education Faculties of Konya Necmettin Erbakan University (KNEÜ) and Muğla Sıtkı KoçmanUniversity (MSKÜ) in 2014-2015 academic year. In the present study, “Scale of Attitudes towardsthe Course of Physical Education and Sports Culture” (BESKDTÖ) developed by the researcherafter seeking expert opinions was employed to collect data. The scale includes four items to elicitthe personal information of the participants and 24 items to elicit their attitudes towards thecourse of physical education and sports culture. In the study, five-point Likert Type scale wasused. In the analysis of the data, SPSS 16.0 program package was used and frequencies werecalculated and t-test, one-way variance analysis (ANOVA) were run. It was found that the pre-service teachers’ attitudes towards the course of physical education and sports culture do notvary significantly depending on gender, the father’s profession and age variables. However, thereason for selecting the classroom teacher education department and the university attendedwere found to have significant effect on their attitudes. The attitudes of the participantsattending KNEÜ were found to be more positive than those of the participants attending MSKÜ.
