A plasmonic perfect absorber (PA) utilizes high absorption of incident radiation and near-field enhancement which is so advantageous for many applications such as solar cell, infrared (IR) spectroscopy, and refractive index (RI) sensitivity. In this study, the numerically presented PA system has resonances from mid-infrared (MIR) to near-infrared (NIR) regions for different periodicities at 2.0, 2.4, and 2.8 mu m. A fine-tuning mechanism is obtained to control the spectral response of PA through the geometrical parameters. Dual-band plasmonic resonances have nearly 98% absorption. Near-field intensity distributions are shown with the enhancement factor of 10(3) at the resonance frequencies. Refractive index sensitivity is also analyzed by embedding PA in different cladding mediums to show the sensing performance. Relationship between resonance wavelength and refractive index of the medium is observed for all resonant modes. The highest sensitivity value is 2382.48 nm/RIU and the figure of merit reaches as high as 28.29 RIU-1.
