Hermenötik-pozitivizm ikiliğinin ardından: Çağdaş sosyal teoride eleştirel natüralist yeni mutabakatın oluşumu

Abstract

Sosyoloji, uzun zaman boyunca hermenötik gelenek ile pozitivist yaklaşım arasındaki hararetli tartışmalara sahne olmuştur. Bu durum disipline kronik bir kriz görünümü vermiştir. Bu makalede bu kriz durumunun günümüzde nispeten aşıldığı iddia edilmiştir. Schütz ve Garfinkel’dan Berger ve Luckmann’a, Giddens ve Bhaskar’dan Bourdieu’ye önemli figürlerin çalışmaları incelenerek sosyolojide hermenötik içgörülerin temellük edildiği ve pozitivist-olmayan, eleştirel bir natüralizme yönelik esnek bir mutabakatın ortaya çıktığı sonucuna varılmıştır. Sosyolojinin hermenötik gelenekten bilhassa birey-faili kavramlaştırırken yararlandığı açığa çıkarılmıştır. Sosyal teorideki önemli problematiklerden biri olan yapı-faillik ilişkisi, bu yeni birey-fail kavrayışı sayesinde doğru şekilde formüle edilebilmiştir. Son bölümde ise, bilim felsefesindeki gelişmelerin pozitivist bilim kavrayışının hatalarını ortaya çıkararak bilimsel etkinliğin daha kapsayıcı bir tanımının yapılmasına olanak tanıdığı gösterilmiştir. Sonuç olarak, sosyolojinin bir bilim olmasının önünde pozitivizm ve hermenötiğin sert versiyonlarının ileri sürdüğü türden engellerin olmadığı gözler önüne serilmiştir. Ayrıca sosyal teorideki önemli çağdaş yaklaşımlar arasında pozitivist-olmayan bir natüralizme dair esnek bir mutabakatın oluşmuş olduğu ve sosyolojinin disiplinler kiriz döneminin geride kaldığı açığa çıkarılmıştır.

Sociology has witnessed the debates between the hermeneutic tradition and the positivist approach for a long time. This gave the discipline the appearance of a chronic crisis. Here it is claimed that this crisis has been relatively overcome today. Through an examination of the works of important figures such as Schutz, Garfinkel, Berger, Giddens, Bhaskar, and Bourdieu, it is revealed that hermeneutic insights are appropriated and a flexible consensus towards a non-positivist, critical naturalism has gradually emerged in sociology. It is showed that sociology reconceptualized individual agent by the help of hermeneutic thoughts. One of the important problematics in social theory, the structure-agency dichotomy, is formulated in the correct way on the basis of this new concept of individual agent. In the last part, it is explained that developments in the philosophy of science reveal the errors of the positivist conception of science and allow for a more inclusive definition of scientific activity. In conclusion, contrary to the claims of hard versions of hermeneutics and positivism, it is clarified that there is no obstacle for sociology to be a science. Also, it is revealed that there is a consensus on a non-positivist naturalism among important contemporary approaches in social theory and the period of paradigmatic crisis is left behind.
