Dermatophyte infection involving unilateral nipplea and areola

Abstract

The superficial dermatophytoses which are caused by fungi, that have ability to reproduce on the keratinized tissue, can be widely seen both in our country and globally. It can be seen on any part of the body but especially the open parts of the skin are the areas where this superficial dermatophytoses can be generally observed. The prevalence of dermatophytoses vary depending on many factors. In Turkey, this infection is often seen in areas where farming is widespread, and can easily be diagnosed clinically. However, this disease can imitate many other diseases by creating clinical manifestations depending on the agent pathogen and hosts immune response. Here, our aim was to present the rarely seen dermatophyte infection which is observed on a 15 year old female patient's left nipple and areola, and can easily be confused with other diseases such as Paget disease or any other benign dermatosis.

Keratinize dokuda çoğalma yeteneğine sahip mantarlar tarafından oluşturulan yüzeyel dermatofit enfeksiyonları tüm dünyada ve ülkemizde yaygın olarak görülmektedir. Vücudun herhangi bir bölgesinde görülebilmesine rağmen en sık deride açık alanlarda ortaya çıkmaktadır. Dermatofitozların yaygınlığı birçok faktöre bağlı olarak değişmekle birlikte, özellikle ülkemizde hayvancılığın yaygın olduğu bölgelerde bu enfeksiyon sık olarak görülmekte ve klinik olarak kolaylıkla tanı alabilmektedir. Ancak, etken patojen ve konağın immün yanıtına bağlı olarak da çeşitli klinik görünümler ortaya çıkartarak birçok hastalığı taklit edebilmektedir. Bu çalışmada 15 yaşındaki kız olguda sol meme başı ve areolasını tutan, bu nedenle Paget hastalığı veya diğer benign dermatozlarla kolaylıkla karışabilecek bir dermatofit enfeksiyonu nadir görülmesi açısından sunulmuştur.
