Özet

In this study, two cylinders of a 1960 model six cylinder Dodge gasoline engine was shut off in low speed mode, and examined as to whether this operation reduces fuel consumption or not. For this purpose, a mechanical system, which is designed to control the intake manifold and an electronic control unit, which operates the mechanism of the intake manifold have been utilized. General information about the test rig, prepared by making some structural modifications on the engine, is given. The power and torque measurements, which were performed using a water brake, are listed in every condition (in idle speed and high speed). In addition to the data gathered, the fuel consumption and vibration values are measured. At the end of the experimental studies, 29% fuel economy was reached in idle speed.
