20. yüzyılda Sûfî biyografi yazıcılığı: Sefîne-i Evliyâ örneği

Abstract

Bu çalışmada Osmanlı’dan Cumhuriyet’e geçiş dönemi tasavvuf tarihi yazıcılığının mühim bir örneği olan Sefîne-i Evliyâ’da biyografi yazım yöntemi incelenmiştir. Sefîne, Hüseyin Vassâf’ın (1872-1929) yazımını yirmi üç yılda tamamladığı beş ciltlik sûfî biyografileri kitabıdır. Vassâf, kendinden önceki birikimi dönem şartlarının el verdiği ölçüde telif etmiş veya birtakım gerekçelerle tercihlerde bulunarak muhafaza etmiş, bununla birlikte aynı dönemde yaşadığı sûfîlerin biyografilerini kayıt altına alarak kendinden sonra yapılacak tasavvuf tarihi çalışmaları için temel bir başvuru kaynağı olan bu mühim eseri vücuda getirmiştir. Özellikle müellifle aynı çağda, İstanbul ve çevresinde yaşamış sûfîler hakkında farklı kaynaklarda bulunmayan orijinal bilgiler ihtiva etmesi bakımından kıymetli olan eser, tasavvuf tarihinde modern dönem biyografi yazımının ilk örnekleri arasında değerlendirilmektedir. Makalede eser ve müellifi ana hatlarıyla tanıtılmış, Sefîne’nin biyografi yazım yöntemi örnekler üzerinden tahlil edilmiş ve eserde klâsik yöntem ile modern yöntemin ahenkli bir sentezinin kullanıldığı sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Literatürde müstakil olarak yer almayan 20. yüzyılda sûfî biyografi yazıcılığı konusunu Sefîne-i Evliyâ örneği üzerinden ele alan bu araştırmanın tasavvuf tarihi alanına katkı sağlaması hedeflenmektedir.

In this study, the biography writing method in Sefîne-i Evliyâ, which is an important example of sufi historical writing in the transition period from the Ottoman Empire to the Republic, was examined. Sefîne is a five-volume book of sufi biographies that Hüseyin Vassâf (1872-1929) completed in twenty-three years. Vassâf compiled the previous knowledge to the extent that the conditions of the period allowed or preserved it by making choices for some reasons, and by recording the biographies of the sufis he lived in the same period, he created this important work, which is a basic reference source for the studies on the history of sufism to be carried out after him. The work, which is valuable in terms of containing original information that is not found in other sources, especially about the sufis who lived in Istanbul and its surroundings in the same era as the author, is considered among the first examples of modern biography in the history of sufism. In the article, the work and its author are introduced in general terms, Sefîne's biography writing method is analyzed through examples, and it is concluded that a harmonious synthesis of the classical method and the modern method is used in the work. The subject of sufi biography writing in the 20th century, which is not included separately in the literature, is discussed with the example of Sefîne-i Evliyâ. This research aims to contribute to the field of sufism history.
