Özet

With the coming to power of Stalin in 1924, patriotic writers opposed to the Soviet regime were destroyed one by one, and folklore or literature was used as a tool to make the people accept the new regime. In the mid-1980s, when the Soviet Union entered the disintegration period, the influence of ideology on Turkmen literature began to decrease. With the beginning of literature to get rid of the influence of ideology, it was aimed to unite the past and the present through literature. In this context, the historical and cultural heritage transferred from the past to the present has started to come to the fore again in Turkmen literature. In this study, the elements of Turkmen life, culture and tradition in the novel of Chary Ashyrov’s Göreş, which was published in 1986 and written with a socialist realist understanding, will be examined. © 2022 Hacettepe University 1.
