Öğrencilerin sayı duyusu stratejilerinin sınıf düzeyi ve sayı duyusu bileşenlerine göre analizi

Abstract

Bu çalışmanın amacı, ilköğretim ikinci kademe 8. sınıf, ortaöğretim 9. sınıf ve üniversite 1. sınıf öğrencilerinin sayı duyusu stratejilerinin sınıf düzeyi ve sayı duyusu bileşenlerine göre nasıl değiştiğini ortaya koymaktır. Çalışmanın örneklemini 249 öğrenci oluşturmuştur. Çalışmada öğrencilerin sayı duyusu performanslarını ölçmek için 17 sorudan oluşan ve Kayhan Altay ve Umay tarafından geliştirilen sayı duyusu testi kullanılmıştır. Testte yer alan sorulara verilen cevaplar 0 ve 1 puanlandırma derecesi ile yapılmıştır. Puanlama kategorisinde standart-rutin yolla yanıt veren öğrencilere 0 puan, soruları çözerken sayı duyularını kullanarak yanıt veren öğrencilere 1 puan verilerek matematik performans puanları hesaplanmıştır. Verilerin analizinde frekans analizi ve tek yönlü varyans analizi uygulanmıştır. Çalışmanın sonuçlarına göre, 8. ve 9. sınıflar sayı duyusu kullanımı açısından belirgin bir fark göstermezken, yükseköğretim 1. sınıf öğrencilerinin sayı duyusu kullanımında artış olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Öğrenci cevapları incelendiğinde, öğrencilerin standart-rutin yollarla işlem yaptığı ve sayı duyusunu kullanmadıkları görülmüştür. Öğrencilerin sayı duyusu becerilerinin gelişimini sağlamak için yenilenen programlara sayı duyusunu geliştirecek yönde eklemeler yapılması, sayı duyusunu geliştirecek örnek ve etkinliklere de yer verilmesi, kazanımların bu doğrultuda yenilenmesi uygun olabilir. Ayrıca öğretmenlerin, hizmet içi eğitimlerle sayı duyusunun önemi ve öğrenciye sayı duyusunu kazandırmada nasıl yardımcı olabilecekleri konusunda bilgilendirilmeleri yararlı olacaktır.

The purpose of this study is to present how the number sense strategies of primary school second stage 8th grade, secondary school 9th grade and university 1st grade students according to the grade level and number sense components. The sample of the study is consisted of 249 students. In the study, the number sense test consisting of 17 questions that is developed by Kayhan Altay and Umay was used to measure the number sense performances of the students. The answers given to the questions in the test were made with a 0 and 1 scoring degree. In the scoring category, students’ mathematics performance scores were calculated by giving 0 points to the students who respond in a standard-routine way and 1 point to the students who respond using the number sense while solving the questions. Frequency analysis and Oneway-Anova were done in the analysis of the data. According to the results of the study, it has been determined that as the grade level of the students progresses, there is an increase in the using of number sense. When the student answers were examined, it was seen that the students solved in standard-routine ways and did not use the number sense. In order to improve the number sense skills of the students, it may be appropriate to make additions to the renewed programs in a direction that will improve the sense of number, to include examples and activities that will improve the number sense and to renew the obtains in this direction. Furthermore, it would be beneficial for teachers to be informed about the importance of number sense with in-service trainings and how they can help students gain number sense.
