In the present work, dosimetric potential and temperature-dependent behaviors of the radicals produced upon gamma-irradiation of anhydrous and monohydrate citric acid were explored through a detail electron spin resonance (ESR) study. While unirradiated samples presented no ESR signal, irradiated samples were observed to exhibit an ESR spectrum consisting of many intense and weak resonance lines spread over a magnetic field range about 13 mT and centered at g = 2.0032. Although, the radicals produced upon gamma-irradiation have the same structures, the ESR spectra of both compounds of citric acid were observed to be different. An evaluation technique based on the variations of the characteristic resonance lines and the spectrum area was adopted to assign the radical species responsible for the observed experimental ESR spectrum and to determine their kinetic and dosimetric features.en_US
